Today is 5 March 2012 in English For IT II, I learned a lot about communication and the following is a summary of the material I’ve learned:
Although the speech is generally accepted as the most advanced forms of communication, there are many ways to communicate without using words. In every known culture, signals, signs, symbols, and gestures are typically used as a communication tool. The signs are less adaptable to the codification of words, also contains the agreed meaning, that is, they convey information in and of themselves.
The symbol is more difficult to describe than either signals or signs because their relationship is complicated by cultural perceptions of the recipient. In some cultures, clapping in the theater to provide players with auditory symbol of approval.
Although the signals, signs, symbols, and gestures are very useful, they also have a large loss in communication. They usually do not allow ideas to be shared without the sender directly adjacent to the receiver. As a result, the means of communication intended to be used across long distances and time must be based on speech. For radio, television, and telephone, one must add a fax, paging systems, electronic mail, and internet, and there is no doubt but that there are more ways of communication on the horizon.
The main idea of paragraph 1 : many ways of communicating.

The main idea of paragraph 3 : although many ways of communicating they also have a major disadvantage in communication
